Prevention and early intervention is important when it comes to substance misuse and mental health. As well as specialised youth counselling, EDAS offers a range of group programs for young people. These programs can be delivered on school premises or at one of our offices by arrangement.
Drug Education: We offer two to four session programs examining how substances affect us and the choices we make. These sessions can be tailored to suit the needs of specific classes, such as health, well-being and psychology related subjects.
Drugs and Friendship: This program explores the relationship between substance use (primary focus on alcohol) and friendship, and developing skills to respond to peers who may be experiencing difficulty with substance use.
ThinkSmart Schoolies: This peer education program tackles issues relevant to year 12 students, including information on drugs and alcohol, legal considerations, mental health and sexual health. Peer leaders are trained over 2 sessions, and then facilitate the program with their school mates.
We also offer support for school staff, including:
Secondary consultation regarding the needs of specific students
Tertiary consultation on responding to substance use concerns as a whole school
Training for staff on alcohol and other drug information, services and interventions
EDAS is committed to partnerships with schools, so we encourage you to contact our service to discuss how we may be able to help.
