What services are available for professionals?

EDAS offers secondary consultation, training and practical resources to other workers in the Eastern Metropolitan Region of Melbourne.

What is secondary consultation?

Secondary consultation may involve a single discussion around general issues or a specific situation, or may be ongoing. In some cases, it may be beneficial for an EDAS counsellor to attend one or more sessions with both the worker and client, and may also include referral to an EDAS counsellor. To access secondary consultation, contact our duty worker on 1300 650 307.

What training is available?

EDAS offers training on a range of substance-related topics. We periodically run a one and a half day program, which presents a practical introduction to key information and skills that are useful in working with clients who use alcohol or other drugs. We also develop training packages that are tailored to the needs of specific agencies or sectors. These packages vary in length and content as required. While our main focus in on the training needs of workers within our region, we are also able to conduct training in other areas where appropriate. To discuss training needs for your organisation, contact our duty worker on 1300 650 705.

What other resources are available?

EDAS strives to provide other workers with resources that will support them in working with alcohol and other drug issues in their own workplace. Some of the resources developed by EDAS are available on this website in the publications section and can be downloaded free of charge.

One resource available for workers is An introduction to working with alcohol and other drug issues. This manual provides an accessible introduction to core themes of alcohol and other drug work as well as practical strategies that may be useful in working with clients. This manual can be downloaded free of charge from our publications section.

EDAS has also developed Getting out of it: How to cut down or quit cannabis, which can also be downloaded free of charge. This resource has a step-by-step workbook format that may be used alone or as part of counselling or support work.

The Peers for Prevention (PFP) Manual and PFP Overheads present three training programs that were developed to provide interested community members with relevant information on substance use and community resources in responding to community needs. The manual consists of a four session program for parents, a four session program for young people and a single session on holding a safer party.
